Re-Think the Middle East PROGRAMS

RTME programming come out of a central commitment to elicit and present new ideas, as well as new critiques of old ideas, with a focus on practical action that can make a real difference in the future of the Middle East.

The next new program will be a series of monthly seminars in Washington, DC, slated for launch in the fall of 2010. The format will vary but each seminar will deal with one aspect of Middle East conflicts or with a particular proposed course of action. The primary speaker will be an advocate. The dialogue partner, discussant, or panel members will  challenge the ideas being advocated. Seminars will include time for audience comments and questions.

Rather than trying to build consensus or identify common ground, RTME’s role is to encourage the proliferation and dissemination of sound, well-thought out ideas which, if implemented, could reduce suffering and aid in the resolution of serious Middle East disputes.

In addition to the RTME blog, we plan to facilitate a more extensive web-based global conversation on Middle East possibilities, inviting an exchange of ideas from multiple perspectives on specific conflict issues.

Washington, DC is where U.S. Middle East policy is debated, formulated, and funded. It is also home to many leading Middle East scholars, analysts, and advocacy groups. When resources permit, RTME intends to create and manage an online calendar/clearinghouse and email list for Middle East related events and activities in the Washington DC area.
